We realized that we have not given an update for today. Sorry that it's so late.
We had a better night last night and Tori slept a decent amount in-between the vital checks every four hours and a couple of other wake ups for medicine. It was pretty tough to start the morning before 6am with a weight check. Not to fun to wake up and be striped down with strangers around. Tori's labs came back and looked better, her potassium levels are up to an acceptable level and should be sustained as she begins to eat more. She slept on an off in-between vital checks, an EKG, and the removal of her drains. It is nice to have her drains gone. So many less things on her chest is wonderful.
Most of the morning Tori was pretty mellow and seemed almost a bit depressed. I think this has been very traumatic for her (to say the least) and she is just coping. I miss her smiles and her busyness. Around 11am my parents came by to visit and to bring us Tessa. Tori had just had her drains removed and was resting in her crib. When Tessa appeared from around the curtain, Tori gave a surprised little squeal. It was adorable. She was so excited to see Tessa. Tessa climbed in her crib with her and they shared some sweet sister time and some yummy M&M's. This perked Tori up and she actually seemed to be coming around. However, after a short while Tori just kind of zoned out. Granted she'd been given narcotics for the drain removal so I'm sure that had something to do with it.
Somewhere in the middle of the day we received roommates. The poor family had had a terrible morning. Their 10 year old dog had bitten their 9 month old son in the head and had cracked the baby's skull. To top it off they were going to be celebrating the husband's birthday that afternoon and had to cancel that as well as will probably have to cancel an upcoming trip (with non refundable tickets) to New Zealand because of this bite. And they made the decision to have their dog put down. Yikes... now that is an awful day. We never really got a chance to talk with them because they were making phone calls and taking care of their little guy. I felt horrible for them, but I also couldn't get rid of the pit in my stomach because their little guy had a cough. I kept thinking about Tori and the possibility of her catching this cold that he had. I've been told by our cardiac case manager that I shouldn't take Tori to the grocery store for a month and here we were sharing a room with a coughing child. A few feet and a curtain between doesn't really do much good. They were eventually transferred to another room about 3 hours later.
The rest of the afternoon Tori was quite mellow. She wanted to be held which is good but she wasn't interested in anything. She ate a little, drank a little and cried for her vital checks. It's hard to see. We're hoping that we get to go home tomorrow and that being home will perk her up. If you could pray for her mental health as well as her physical health we'd so appreciate it. We're praying that this has not lessened her connection with us or trust in us.
Psa 31:24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
Phil 4:19-20 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

hi guys! I am praying!!!!! Tori being so stoic is very familiar. We did get even one smile out of Georgia until she was in her carseat on teh way out of teh Children's parking lot! For awhile she was terrified of doctors but now will go right in, and pull up her shirt with a big ole smile. I'm praying for the Lord to be speaking to and protecting her heart and her mind! Hang in there, almost you're home!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Shannon. I needed to hear that.
ReplyDeletePraying that all of this just confirms in Tori's heart that she TRULY can trust and rely on you. Praying that as her heart and mind sort all of this out that she leans even more on you and on her heavenly Father. May God use this for good in her life. Her heart and mind may be a bit fuzzy from all of the new trauma but she will see that her forever family is forever by her side! Blessings!
